Special Events:

  • Social on Thursday Night at the Best Western next to the Convention Center - The cost of the social will include heavy hors d'oeuvers, tea, beer, and wine. No cash bar, however, please help us show appreciation for the bartender by leaving a tip. A band providing music is planned and Dr. Ambrose will MC a bee themed game patterned after "Family Fued." Social ends at 9:00 pm. Anyone that wishes may join a group going downtown to some of the night establishments.
  • Bee Buddies Program for Children (Mornings of Thursday & Friday March, 6-7, 2014 - for 4th and 5th graders) - This program is a snapshot of a year-long beekeeping program for youth. This program engages youth in the life of a honeybee. Youth learn what it is like to be a beekeeper and why anyone would want to be an overseer of these interesting insects. A bees life will be examined through hands-on activities. Youth will experience the honeybee as they never have before. They will go away with a greater understanding and appreciation of honeybees. Life of a bee that youth experience in this brief introduction: bee biology, communication, behavior, and work ethics.   • A free trolley tour will also be provided to see the sights of historic downtown and the U.S.S. North Carolina and will last about 45 min - 1 hour. Tours will leave the convention center daily at 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm (as long as there is enough interest).
  • Door Prizes Each Day
  • Vendor Displays and Equipment Sales
  • Dr. Ambrose Intro/Intermediate Short Course - This class will teach beginning and intermediate beekeeping in preparation for the Certified or Journeyman levels of the Master Beekeeper Program. The book, "First Lessons in Beekeeping" by Dadant will be provided. No discounts will be giving for those already having or sharing a book.
  • Silent Auction - Please bring donations of beekeeping items, tools, or other useful things.
  • A weekend getaway at the beach will be one of the items available at the silent auction
  • Raffle tickets to win a bee quilt will be available for purchase during the conference

Location & Parking:

The conference is being held at the Wilmington Convention Center located at 515 Nutt St., Wilmington, NC 28401 [ map ]

Parking during the conference will be available in the Convention Center Parking deck. The parking rate is on a graduated fee schedule: $2.00 first hour, then $1.00 each hour not to exceed $8.00 a day. There is no daily pass that allows leaving and returning to the parking deck within the day. If you leave and return, you will be paying the $2.00 first hour fee again.
